THE STUDIO
Architecture is a means to induce awe and to provide pause, reflection, and connectivity between people, communities, nature—the built environment. Our projects achieve a cinematic quality where light is harnessed as a medium to let hidden narratives unfold and normative thresholds blur. Enchantment is found in the ordinary with the aspects of inhabitation unseen and in between. Firmly rooted in research and material innovation, the practice weaves the threads of history, culture, site-specificity to craft meaningful experiences fully embodied in physical space.
JMDS is a multi-disciplinary studio creating unique design solutions for buildings, interiors, public installations, furniture, and lighting. Click here to start a dialogue with Jordana and our team.
THE TEAM
JORDANA MAISIE
Jordana Maisie is an architect, designer, and the founder of JMDS, a multidisciplinary design studio, and JMDW, an experimentation and fabrication workshop, based in Los Angeles. She embraces creative practice through a wide lens with a refreshing openness. A background in orchestral music, photography, and film, constructed a foundation for an art practice in Berlin, which bridged physical experience and interactive design.
The value of presence in physical space, as opposed to mediation through screens, is crucial to her work. A residency in Australia, her country of origin, culminated in a large-scale public installation, paving the path to studies in architecture, furniture, and lighting design. After completing graduate school, Jordana brought her unique approach to Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s renowned studio in New York.
Jordana holds a Master of Architecture, and an MFA in Lighting Design from Parsons School of Design; a BFA in photography from the Glasgow School of Art; and a MFA in Video Production & Sound Engineering from the College of Fine Arts in Sydney. She is currently an adjunct professor at USC’s School of Architecture in Los Angeles, and a recipient of the Art & Australia/Credit Suisse Private Banking Contemporary Art Award.
Jordana’s work has been published in titles including FRAME, Harper’s Bazaar, The New York Times, Surface, and WWD.
CALEB SILLARS
Since landing in NYC in 2011, Caleb Sillars has participated in a wide variety of design and building pursuits, from graphic design and 3D compositing work to adventures in construction, carpentry and fabrication. He entered the world of architecture through his education at the Parsons School of Constructed Environments where he received an M.Arch in 2016. His practice experience has included positions at Rice+Lipka and LEVENBETTS, and six years at Bernheimer Architecture, all in NYC, before becoming the first east-coast hire of LA-based Jordana Maisie Design Studio (JMDS) in 2024.
JESSICA GOMEZ
Jessica received her Bachelor of Architecture from Woodbury University where she worked alongside a team to permit and build LA’s first 3D printed home, being featured on Dezeen, LA Times and various news outlets. Since then she joined JMDS in 2023 and has been involved in various project phases while intersecting architectural, interior and lighting design for residential and commercial projects in Los Angeles and New York. She also enjoys learning how to expand her culinary knowledge during JMDS’ weekly Staff Lunch.
NICHOLAS J. HADDAD
Nicholas J. Haddad (NH, Nich, Nicksta, Niko-bear) received his BArch from Woodbury University during the Summer of 2021. He has worked for a diverse range of companies like DTANK+ and OFFICEUNTITLED but has been evolving his skills with the Jordana Maisie Design Studio + Workshop (JMDS / JMDW) family. He currently runs the Jordana Maisie Design Workshop (JMDW) as lead fabricator with a primary focus on design & build projects; an assortment of hand-crafted furniture, casework, and lighting. When Nicholas is not working, he enjoys cooking lavish meals, drinking scotch, and turning green wood into beautiful objects on his lathe.
