BAR SCHEME

Type: Single Family
Size: 8,891 sqft
Location: Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles
Year: 2022
Status: Design Proposal

The Bar is a ground up, single family home proposal, in Los Angeles, Southern California. Based exquisitely on the lush Hollywood hills, with a panoramic view of Downtown Los Angeles, the Hollywood Reservoir, and Hollywood’s greenscape, the Bar Scheme is designed to create a living space that stacks, cantilevers, and intersects the resident with nature and pool activities at multiple moments.

Warm, earthen wood materials make up the exterior of the facade, displaying light, vertical slats on top and concrete-like horizontal wood on the bottom. Harmony with the landscape is achieved through the protruding transition of spaces that designate residential living programs, oriented to maximize viewports.

The building’s bold, stacked logic is made up of floating volumes with large windows that overlook the interior courtyard. Two iconic, intersecting pools traverse the site, fostering varying moments of tranquility and sunlight. The home is a unique union between everyday living and playful elements of relaxation, valuing both equally to create a more balanced lifestyle.
