Round House is a ground up, single family home proposal, in Los Angeles, Southern California. Based exquisitely on the lush Hollywood hills, with a panoramic view of Downtown Los Angeles, the Hollywood Reservoir, and Hollywood’s greenscape, the Circle Scheme is designed with a radial logic that nests living, leisure, and landscape into a singular horizon. A pool elegantly balances over the hill that surrounds the property. Repose and calm represent a harmonious lifestyle for a family that is constantly on the go in Los Angeles’ fast paced center. The radial architecture dances around the embedded landscape, connecting it to the surrounding environment.
Light brick, a naturally heavy and bold material, fused with stone and plaster, complement and contrast the soft curves of the building form against the landscape. Nature intervenes at varying moments to nurture a sense of junction across the building’s circulation. The progressional, radial flow is inspired by 360’ views and the opportunity for private and public programs to be driven by daylight and their orientation on the site.
Custom interior furniture resonates with the exterior language of curvature and sunlight. Circular skylights puncture openings for light wells, contrasted by sunken juxtaposed seating.
